Tripaneer Bankruptcy: 7 Steps to Protect Your Deposit

Tripaneer Bankruptcy: 7 Steps to Protect Your Deposit

The Tripaneer bankruptcy means a deposit paid through BookYogaRetreats or BookYogaTeacherTraining is now part of a Dutch court case, and recovery is not guaranteed. Protect yours in seven steps: confirm who took the payment, gather your documents, ask your card provider about disputes, check your insurance, file a claim with the trustee, and write to your host.

This guide comes from the team at YogaFX, the academy that Mr. Ian Terry founded in 2017. Many of our students ask us about the Tripaneer bankruptcy, so we checked every date below against public sources on 7 October 2026. We are not lawyers, so please treat this as practical information and not as legal or financial advice.

What the Tripaneer bankruptcy means for your deposit

Tripaneer B.V. of Amsterdam ran several booking sites, including BookYogaRetreats and BookYogaTeacherTraining. In late September 2026 the company moved from a payment suspension (surseance) into bankruptcy (faillissement). The ClaimsAgent case page lists the file number, the court and the trustee.

Why does this touch your money? According to the BookRetreats guide for guests, Tripaneer normally collected deposits and passed them to organisers after deducting a commission. For trips that have not happened yet, organisers may never have received your deposit.

The same guide says the trustee currently cannot pay claims for bookings that have yet to take place. That means recovery is uncertain, and anyone who promises a full refund after the Tripaneer bankruptcy is guessing. Some hosts may ask you to pay again, so read Step 6 before you do.

BookRetreats is a separate, independent company and says it is not affected. So check your receipt first. If it names BookRetreats instead of Tripaneer, ask that platform about your booking.

7 steps to protect your deposit after the Tripaneer bankruptcy

Work through these in order. Steps 1 and 2 cost nothing and take an evening. Steps 3 to 5 have deadlines, so start them early if your original training date is close.

Step 1: Confirm which company took your payment

Open your confirmation email and your bank or card statement. The payee name tells you whether the Tripaneer bankruptcy affects your booking, so write it down before you contact anyone. Booking sites often use brand names that differ from the company name on your statement.

  • Tripaneer, BookYogaRetreats or BookYogaTeacherTraining: the bankruptcy applies to you, so keep reading.
  • BookRetreats: a separate company, so ask that platform directly.
  • The school or host itself: your contract is with them, so ask what they hold.

Step 2: Build your evidence pack

One tidy folder saves hours later. Each party you contact will want some of the same papers, so gather them once and reuse them.

DocumentWhy it mattersWho may ask for it

Screenshots are a fine start. Save the original emails too, because the headers show real dates and senders.

Step 3: Ask your card provider or PayPal about a dispute

This is often the fastest route, and it has the shortest clock. Call your provider this week and ask one question: can I dispute a payment to a supplier that has gone bankrupt?

  • Card chargeback: BookRetreats suggests asking about a chargeback within roughly 120 days of your scheduled travel date. Rules differ between banks, so get your provider’s exact deadline in writing.
  • UK credit card, Section 75: Experian explains that an item must cost over £100 and up to £30,000, and that credit cards are covered while debit cards are not. Paying only a deposit by credit card can still cover the full item if the trader goes bust.
  • PayPal: a dispute for an item not received must be opened within 180 days of the payment date, according to PayPal’s dispute timeframes.

When you call, say that the supplier has gone bankrupt and give the payment date. Ask whether you must file online or in writing, and ask for a reference number. Write down the agent’s name and the time of the call.

Your provider decides each case, so nobody can promise the outcome after the Tripaneer bankruptcy. Asking early simply keeps the door open.

Step 4: Check your travel insurance for supplier failure

Some travel policies cover supplier failure or end supplier failure, and others exclude it. Read the exact wording rather than the marketing summary. If your policy mentions it, notify the insurer promptly and send your evidence pack.

Many people never bought travel insurance for a training course. That’s common, so don’t worry if you didn’t. The other routes still apply, and a claim after the Tripaneer bankruptcy doesn’t depend on insurance at all.

Step 5: File a claim with the trustee

The ClaimsAgent case page has a “Submit claim” link for creditors of the Tripaneer bankruptcy. BookRetreats describes the claim route as free. Filing registers you as a creditor, but it doesn’t decide whether anything is paid, how much, or when.

Be realistic here. BookRetreats notes that ordinary creditors are paid last and often receive only a small share, if anything. The first creditors’ meeting on 9 December 2026 is the next fixed date, so keep an eye on the case page.

Step 6: Write to your host or school

A short, calm email gets better answers than a long, angry one. Quote your booking reference and the platform you paid, then ask three plain questions.

  • Does my booking still stand?
  • Did you receive any part of my deposit?
  • What do you need from me, and by when?

Ask for a reply within seven days and keep the answer in your folder. If the host asks you to pay again, wait for a written statement of what they received and what the cancellation terms are. Paying the balance early can leave you out of pocket twice.

Step 7: Decide what you want next, in writing

Once the paperwork is moving, ask yourself whether you still want to train this year. The Tripaneer bankruptcy is a good moment to choose the format that suits you, instead of simply replacing what you lost.

If you do, compare the total cost and not only the deposit. Ask what is included, when the balance is due and what happens if dates change. Our guide on how to choose a yoga teacher training gives you a checklist you can run on any provider, including us.

A simple timeline: this week, this month, before January

Deposits feel stressful after the Tripaneer bankruptcy partly because everything seems urgent at once. Splitting the work by time makes it manageable.

WhenWhat to doWhy now
This weekSteps 1 and 2, then call your card provider or PayPalDispute clocks may already be running
Within two weeksCheck insurance, file with the trustee, email your hostProvider deadlines can expire before the trustee reports
Before 9 December 2026Keep a dated log of every replyThe meeting may bring clearer information
Before 24 January 2027Decide on training dates if you want the next Bali intakeFlights, places and rooms need lead time

Nothing here forces you to decide about training today. It simply keeps your options open while the outcome is unknown.

How much can you recover after the Tripaneer bankruptcy?

Nobody knows yet, so the honest answer is “it depends on how you paid”. The table below shows who decides each route and what the sources say about timing.

RouteTime limit mentioned in sourcesWho decides
Card chargebackRoughly 120 days from scheduled travel (BookRetreats)Your bank
Section 75 (UK credit card)Item cost over £100 and up to £30,000Your card provider
PayPal dispute180 days from payment datePayPal
Travel insuranceSet by your policy wordingYour insurer
Trustee claimCreditors’ meeting on 9 December 2026Trustee and court

Start with the routes that have deadlines, because they can close while the trustee is still working. The trustee claim is worth filing too, since an unfiled claim cannot be considered at all.

A short scenario

Imagine a student in Manchester who paid a deposit by UK credit card in August for a January training. On Monday she finds the confirmation email and the card statement. On Tuesday she phones her card provider and asks about Section 75, because the supplier has gone bust.

By Friday she has filed a free claim with the trustee and emailed the host. The host replies that the booking is on hold. She still doesn’t know what she will get back. But every route is now open, and she hasn’t paid anything twice. That’s a good week’s work, and it costs nothing.

Warning signs of recovery scams

Bankruptcies attract opportunists. Be wary if someone contacts you first, asks for an upfront fee, or pressures you to decide today.

  • They charge a fee to “recover” a deposit, although the trustee claim route is free.
  • They ask for card details, passwords or remote access to your device.
  • They promise a guaranteed refund or a fixed date.

How YogaFX may credit a verified deposit

If your deposit was lost in the Tripaneer bankruptcy and was meant for a yoga teacher training, YogaFX may be able to give full credit for the verified deposit you paid. We would apply it to the next available eligible YogaFX Yoga Teacher Training course in Bali.

First we review your confirmation and proof of payment. Then we set out the amount, course, dates, remaining balance and conditions in writing, so you can decide with the full picture.

To be clear, a credit is not a cash refund. It also doesn’t mean Tripaneer ever sent your money to us. Each request gets its own review, so we can’t promise approval up front. Should a bank, insurer or the trustee pay you later, let us know so the credit stays fair.

A worked example

Suppose your verified deposit is applied in full to a course at the current Early Bird price of US$1,899 (normally US$1,999). The credit comes straight off that price, and you pay the remaining balance. The example is illustrative, not a quotation, because the final figure depends on your course and dates.

Interest-free instalments start from US$250 a month, so the remaining balance can follow your monthly budget. Email [email protected] with the subject line Tripaneer deposit and attach your evidence pack. Please include:

  • The platform you used and your booking reference
  • How much you paid, in which currency, and on what date
  • Your confirmation email and the receipt
  • The course you booked, its format and its dates
  • Any dispute, claim or refund already in progress elsewhere

Three mistakes that cost money after the Tripaneer bankruptcy

Waiting for the trustee before acting

Bank and insurer deadlines run on their own clocks. They may expire long before the creditors’ meeting on 9 December 2026, so ask about them now.

Paying the balance twice

Hold off on any remaining balance until the host confirms in writing that your booking stands. Ask what they received, what the cancellation terms are, and who holds your money. A friendly tone doesn’t replace a written answer.

Treating a credit as a replacement for other rights

A course credit from any school is separate from a bank dispute, an insurance claim or a filing with the trustee. The only requirement is honesty about what you have already received. That keeps every party’s records accurate and protects you too.

From online preparation to the Bali intensive

Many people who booked through a platform were drawn to an online format, often because of work, family or budget. The YogaFX route is a hybrid, because teaching is a physical, spoken skill that needs live correction. You study online at home first, then join a 6-day intensive in Seminyak, Bali, at Soham Wellness Center.

YogaFX Bikram Hot 26&2 Yoga Teacher Training online course cover, one option for students affected by the Tripaneer bankruptcy

The next intake has check-in on Sunday 24 January 2027 and check-out on Friday 29 January 2027. Graduates receive the Yoga Alliance RYT 200-Hour credential and the Bikram Hot 26&2 200-Hour International Yoga Certification. Whether a credit can apply to the online part depends on your original booking, and we confirm that in writing. We don’t assume that every Tripaneer booking qualifies.

Want to see the online side before you commit? Request the complimentary course preview. It’s a low-pressure way to test the material while your claims are still open.

FAQ

Is Tripaneer legit?

Tripaneer B.V. was a registered Amsterdam company that ran BookYogaRetreats and BookYogaTeacherTraining, so it was a real business. However, the Tripaneer bankruptcy followed a court ruling at the end of September 2026. Don’t pay new bookings through its brands, and check any school’s details directly before you pay.

Can I get a deposit refund after the Tripaneer bankruptcy?

Maybe, but nobody can promise it. Your main routes are a card chargeback, UK Section 75 for credit card payments, a PayPal dispute, a travel insurance claim and a free trustee claim. Ordinary creditors are paid last, so start with the routes that have deadlines.

Can you dispute a deposit paid to a company that went bankrupt?

Often yes, through your bank or card provider, but time limits apply after the Tripaneer bankruptcy. BookRetreats suggests roughly 120 days from the scheduled travel date for card disputes, and PayPal allows 180 days from payment for items not received. Ask your provider for its exact deadline in writing.

How do I contact Tripaneer customer service?

Because the company is bankrupt, the trustee, mr V.G.M. Leferink, now handles creditor matters. You can file a claim through the ClaimsAgent case page. A normal support desk can no longer decide refunds, so ask your host or school whether your booking still stands.

How long does a deposit refund take?

It depends on the route. Card and PayPal disputes follow your provider’s own timelines, while the trustee has announced no payment date. The first creditors’ meeting on 9 December 2026 is the next fixed milestone. Keep your records and follow up in writing.

Still have questions? Message Mr. Ian and the YogaFX team on WhatsApp or email [email protected], and we will answer them personally. Not sure teacher training is right for you yet? The readiness quiz is a gentle first step, and you can see the full programme on the Bikram yoga teacher training online homepage.

Tripaneer Bankruptcy: How to Choose a Yoga Teacher Training Provider With Confidence

How do you choose a yoga teacher training when two offers look equally good on screen? Imagine them side by side. Offer A has gorgeous photographs, a countdown timer and a button asking you to pay the full price today. Offer B shows named teachers, a current venue address and a written refund policy, and tells you to take a few days to read it. Neither presentation proves which training is better. But only one of them is giving you anything you can actually test.

That’s the heart of this guide. After the Tripaneer bankruptcy in October 2026, plenty of aspiring teachers are wondering how to tell a solid provider from a risky one. We’ll use this hypothetical pair to show how to compare yoga teacher trainings, Bikram Hot 26&2 programmes and even meditation retreats on evidence rather than on how a listing makes you feel. It’s written by the team at YogaFX, the academy founded by Mr. Ian Terry, whose students often start their training online before finishing in Bali.

Key Takeaways: How to Choose a Yoga Teacher Training

  • To choose a yoga teacher training well, compare what you can verify: named teachers, venue, dates and credentials.
  • Read reviews across independent platforms and test how quickly each provider answers real questions.
  • Before you choose a yoga teacher training, ask who holds the deposit and whether there’s a full-refund cooling-off period.
  • Tripaneer B.V.’s October 2026 bankruptcy shows why booking directly with a verified school matters.

Why the Tripaneer Bankruptcy Changes How You Choose a Yoga Teacher Training

Tripaneer B.V. ran BookYogaTeacherTraining and BookYogaRetreats, two of the most popular places to discover trainings. After a suspension of payments ended on 30 September 2026, the District Court of Amsterdam declared the company bankrupt at the start of October. The Dutch insolvency record lists the case as F.13/26/306.

The lesson isn’t that booking platforms are bad. It’s that a platform’s checkout can sit between you and your teacher in ways you don’t see, and when that middle layer fails, students and schools both get stuck. BookRetreats, a separate company with a similar name, says it has no connection to Tripaneer, which matters if you’re unsure which bookings are affected.

If you’ve already paid a Tripaneer deposit, start with our guide to the Tripaneer bankruptcy and paid deposits. If you’re choosing your next training, keep reading.

Comparison One: What You Can Actually Verify

To choose a yoga teacher training, start by using a booking app or search engine to build a shortlist. Compare destinations, formats, dates and styles. Then contact each provider directly and start testing.

For each offer, ask:

  • When did this training begin operating, and how long has the owner been in business?
  • What’s the owner’s name, and who are the senior teachers?
  • What are their credentials, and can I confirm them independently?
  • How many teaching hours does the course include, how am I assessed, and what certificate do I receive?

Yoga Alliance’s public directory of registered teachers and schools lets you check RYT, E-RYT and RYS claims in a minute. If a provider is vague about any of these questions, that’s your first difference between Offer A and Offer B.

Confirm the programme still exists

Ask for the current venue and dates. Fake or hijacked listings are a recognised problem, and an old listing can describe a training that stopped running years ago. The US Federal Trade Commission’s December 2025 analysis counted nearly 65,000 rental scam reports since 2020, with around 65 million US dollars lost, and pressure to pay before seeing anything was a common tactic. That’s general rental data, not a claim about any named app, but the warning applies. A trainee could spend thousands of dollars on fees and travel before discovering a programme doesn’t exist or looks nothing like its description.

Comparison Two: Reputation, Not Just Ratings

How many 5-star reviews does each provider have? Then ask the more useful questions:

  • Are the reviews genuine and verifiable, spread across months or years?
  • Do they mention the same programme and venue you’re considering?
  • Are there critical reviews, and how did the provider respond?
  • Do independent sites tell the same story as the testimonials on the sales page?

Fake reviews are widespread enough that the FTC adopted a rule banning fake reviews and testimonials in 2024. Video testimonials and graduate outcomes are often harder to fake than star ratings, so look for those too.

Check the digital presence for consistency: an official website, recent activity, named people and matching contact details. A newer training can be perfectly legitimate, but it should explain its background clearly rather than hiding behind stock photos.

Comparison Three: The Conversations

Before you choose a yoga teacher training, call both providers. Is the phone answered politely and professionally? Does the person understand your question, or just repeat the sales page? When they promise to send something, does it arrive?

If meaningful replies repeatedly take longer than roughly 24 to 36 hours, ask about staffing and response procedures. Delays can point to service weaknesses, but time zones, holidays and published office hours can also explain them. Treat a slow reply as a reason to investigate, not as proof.

What you compareOffer A (hypothetical)Offer B (hypothetical)
TeachersNot namedNamed, credentials verifiable
Venue and dates“Bali, various dates”Address and exact dates
ReviewsHigh score, little detailDetailed, on several platforms
Response timeAutomated reply onlySpecific answer next day
PaymentFull price nowSmall deposit, written schedule
Refund policyNot shownWritten, with cooling-off window

Offer B isn’t guaranteed to be better. It’s just giving you far more to test, and that’s what you’re paying attention to.

Comparison Four: The Terms Attached to the Deposit

Nobody should choose a yoga teacher training without this comparison; the Tripaneer case made it impossible to skip. Ask each seller who holds the money, when it reaches the host, and what oversight and safeguards apply. Request evidence of any client-money or insolvency protection. An app’s checkout doesn’t prove your funds are protected.

Then ask directly: can I get my full deposit back, with no questions asked, during a cooling-off period? Check the deadline, exclusions, deductions and refund timing. Reconsider any platform that offers no reasonable time to review the commitment. Legal rights vary, and the EU’s guidance on withdrawal rights confirms that date-specific accommodation and leisure bookings don’t get the usual 14-day right. Your contract is what counts.

Understand exactly when each payment is due. Avoid unnecessary large upfront payments and ask about smaller deposits or staged payments. The FTC’s travel scam advice warns that wire transfers, gift cards and cryptocurrency are almost impossible to recover, so pay in a way you can dispute. Book directly with the verified host whenever possible, after comparing any protections the platform offered.

A Worked Example: Following Up on Offer A

Say you like Offer A’s photos so much that you decide to give it a fair chance. Good. Here’s how that might actually play out over a week.

On Monday you email three questions: who teaches, where exactly the training runs, and what the refund policy says. An automated reply arrives instantly. Nothing else does.

On Wednesday you call. Someone answers, friendly enough, and says the teacher line-up “is still being finalised” for your dates. They can’t send a refund policy yet, but there’s a discount if you pay in full by Friday.

That’s three answers you couldn’t verify and one reason to rush. It doesn’t prove Offer A is a scam. The organiser may simply be disorganised, or new. But a disorganised booking process before you pay rarely becomes an organised one after. Meanwhile Offer B has sent its policy, named its teachers and told you there’s no rush. When you choose a yoga teacher training, that difference in how each provider handles a few ordinary questions is often the clearest signal you’ll get.

Online, Hybrid or In-Person: Does Format Change the Risk?

When you choose a yoga teacher training, format changes what you’re buying, so it changes what to check. A fully online course is mostly about the platform, the teaching materials and whether the certificate is recognised. An in-person intensive adds a venue, accommodation and travel. A hybrid sits in between: you study online at home, then travel for a short intensive.

The same four comparisons apply to all three. For online and hybrid programmes, add a couple of questions. Can you preview the course material before paying? How long do you keep access? Who answers your questions while you study? A provider that lets you see a complimentary preview of the course before you commit is giving you one more thing to verify.

If the Comparison Involves a Deposit You’ve Already Paid

As checked on 6 October 2026, Tripaneer B.V.’s bankruptcy case is open under F.13/26/306. Before agreeing to a replacement course, ask your original host whether the booking is still valid and how they’ll treat your deposit. Keep every document, and check your payment provider’s dispute routes and deadlines, any relevant insurance and the curator’s claim instructions. Recovery is uncertain, and nobody can promise an outcome yet. Our 7 steps to protect your deposit walk through each route in order.

How YogaFX Answers the Same Comparison

Here’s our side of the table, so you can run the same tests on us. YogaFX was founded in 2017 by Mr. Ian Terry, an E-RYT 500 teacher with more than 12,000 teaching hours. He trained for five years, from 2014 to 2019, with the founder of the Bikram Hot 26&2 method, and he’s a Master Trainer for the Republic of Indonesia Yogasana Sports Federation. More than 1,500 graduates from over 80 countries have trained with us. You can read 150 Google reviews, 50 Yoga Alliance reviews and 357 YouTube video testimonials on independent platforms.

Our 6-day hybrid MasterClass starts with online pre-course study and ends with an intensive in Seminyak, Bali, leading to Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and Bikram Hot 26&2 200-hour certification. The next intake checks in on Sunday 24 January 2027. You book directly, the deposit is deliberately very low, the Early Bird price is US$1,899 (normally US$1,999), and interest-free instalments start from US$250 a month. You can see the full online programme on the Bikram yoga teacher training online homepage, and our sister site explains what really matters when choosing a training program.

Support for Tripaneer-affected deposits

If you booked yoga teacher training in Bali or elsewhere in Asia and your deposit is difficult to recover or use, email [email protected]. We may be able to offer full credit for a verified deposit towards an eligible future course, following individual review and written approval. Online-course eligibility has to be confirmed separately, so ask about the format before assuming it qualifies. This is training credit, not a cash refund from Tripaneer. You can also message Mr. Ian’s team on WhatsApp first.

FAQ: How to Choose a Yoga Teacher Training

Which yoga teacher training is best?

The best yoga teacher training is the one whose teachers, venue, reviews and terms you can verify, in the style you actually want to teach. Confirm Yoga Alliance registration, read independent reviews, test how the team responds, and compare deposit and refund terms before choosing. Price alone is a poor guide.

How do I choose a yoga teacher training online?

Check that the certificate is recognised, ideally by Yoga Alliance. Ask to preview course material, confirm how long you keep access, and find out who answers questions while you study. Compare refund terms and payment schedules, and verify the lead trainer’s credentials in the Yoga Alliance public directory before paying.

Is BookYogaTeacherTraining still safe to use?

BookYogaTeacherTraining was operated by Tripaneer B.V., which was declared bankrupt in Amsterdam in October 2026 under case F.13/26/306. New bookings through its brands carry obvious risk. Contact training providers directly instead, keep records of any existing booking, and follow the curator’s claim instructions.

What should a yoga teacher training deposit policy include?

It should name who holds the deposit, state a cooling-off period with a full refund, set out what happens if the school cancels, and give a dated payment schedule. Ask for refund timing in working days. If any of those are missing or vague, request them in writing before you pay.

Can I use a Tripaneer deposit towards an online course?

Possibly, but don’t assume it. YogaFX may offer full credit for verified Tripaneer deposits towards an eligible future course after individual review, and online-course eligibility is confirmed case by case. Email [email protected] with your booking confirmation, receipt and preferred format to check.
