The Tripaneer bankruptcy has left many people asking the same thing: if I paid a deposit through BookYogaRetreats or BookYogaTeacherTraining, what actually happens to it? This guide explains the situation step by step, using public records, so that you understand the process and not only the headline. It also sets out how YogaFX may be able to credit a verified deposit in full toward an eligible teacher training course.

We have written it as an explainer. If you only want the practical steps, jump to the section called what to do next. If you want to understand why recovery is uncertain, read from the top. Everything reflects public information checked on 5 October 2026.

How a deposit moved through these platforms

It helps to picture the flow of money. According to BookRetreats’ summary of Tripaneer’s help centre, a guest paid a deposit online to Tripaneer, at least equal to Tripaneer’s commission. The guest then paid the remaining balance directly to the host by an agreed date. Tripaneer passed the deposit to the host, minus its commission, one to two days after the guest arrived.

The consequence is simple. Until a guest arrived, the deposit stayed with the platform. If the platform failed before arrival, the host may never have received any of that money, which is why the situation is difficult for hosts as well as guests.

Reading the public record

The most useful public source is the case page on ClaimsAgent. It lists the company, the District Court of Amsterdam, file number F.13/26/306, the appointed trustee, and the date of the first creditors’ meeting. It shows the bankruptcy judgment as 30 September 2026, following a provisional suspension of payments on 28 September.

BookRetreats, which wrote a guide for retreat hosts, uses 1 October 2026 for the bankruptcy date. We cannot say which of the two is more precise, so we cite both. The difference does not change what you need to do.

Tripaneer’s about page lists the brands that belonged to the group, including BookYogaRetreats and BookYogaTeacherTraining. That is how you can tell whether your booking is likely to be connected. A confirmation email from either brand means your deposit went to the company now in bankruptcy.

Why recovery is uncertain

In a bankruptcy, a trustee takes control of the company, sells or collects its assets, and distributes the proceeds to creditors in a legal order. Secured creditors and certain priority claims are typically paid first. Customers with deposits for services not yet delivered are generally unsecured creditors and are paid only if money remains.

BookRetreats reports that the curator has said the company cannot currently pay claims linked to bookings that have not yet taken place, and that it is too early to say about the future. That is an honest description of uncertainty, and it is why we avoid promising anything on behalf of the trustee.

What to do next

  1. Collect your confirmation email, receipt and proof of payment in a single folder.
  2. Contact your host in writing to ask whether the booking stands and whether they received anything.
  3. Ask your bank, card issuer or payment provider about dispute options and their deadlines.
  4. Read your travel insurance wording for supplier failure or insolvency cover.
  5. Consider registering a claim through the route described on the ClaimsAgent page. Filing is free.
  6. If you wish, send your documents to YogaFX so a possible course credit can be reviewed.

Be cautious about anyone who contacts you offering to recover your deposit for a fee. The official route does not charge you. For a fuller walkthrough of the same situation, you can read the updated guide for Tripaneer deposit payers.

How YogaFX may be able to help

YogaFX may be able to give full credit for the verified deposit you paid, applied to the next available eligible YogaFX Yoga Teacher Training course in Bali. We review your booking confirmation and proof of payment first. If a credit can be applied, we set out in writing the amount, the course, the dates, the remaining balance and the conditions before you decide.

A course credit is not a cash refund and does not mean Tripaneer has transferred your money to YogaFX. Each request is reviewed individually, so approval cannot be promised in advance. If you receive a refund from a bank, insurer or the trustee, we ask you to tell us so the credit stays accurate.

A worked example

Suppose a verified deposit is USD 400 and an eligible course costs USD 2,000. A full credit leaves USD 1,600. The numbers are illustrative only and not a quotation, because prices and availability vary by course and date.

A note for people interested in online training

This website focuses on online preparation for teacher training. Many readers who booked through Tripaneer brands were looking at in-person programmes, and the credit described above is for the next eligible YogaFX course in Bali. If your original booking was closer to an online format, tell us in your email. Whether a credit can apply to an online option depends on the original booking and the course, and we would confirm that in writing.

The standard YogaFX route combines online study at home with a 6-day intensive in Seminyak, Bali, for a maximum of 19 students, leading to Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and Bikram Hot 26&2 certification. The next MasterClass runs from 24 to 29 January 2027. You can read an overview on the home page, see the complementary preview, or look at pre-order information.

YogaFX is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School, and this can be checked on its public profile. Training and registering as a teacher are separate steps, so we would confirm the current completion and registration requirements before you commit.

Common misunderstandings

The host must refund me

Not necessarily. If the host never received your deposit, they have no money of yours to return, and they are often an unpaid creditor themselves. Some hosts will still offer goodwill, such as a reduced price or a new date, but they are not obliged to. Treat any such offer as a kindness and ask for it in writing.

Filing a claim means I will be paid

Filing registers you as a creditor. It does not decide whether anything is distributed, how much, or when. Its value is that a claim never filed cannot be considered at all, so it keeps the option open at no cost.

A course credit replaces my other rights

It does not. A YogaFX credit is separate from any dispute with your bank, claim on your insurance or filing with the trustee. The only requirement is honesty about what you have received, so that nobody is paid twice for the same deposit.

Notice the gap between early October and the creditors’ meeting in December. If you hope to train in January 2027, decisions about dates may need to be made before the trustee has said anything further. That is one reason we suggest contacting us early if you want to keep that intake open.

What a written confirmation should include

If YogaFX or any provider offers a credit, ask that the offer states the amount and currency, the course name and dates, the balance due and when, the rules for changing dates, and how any later refund from a third party will be treated. A written statement protects both sides and avoids misunderstandings months later.

If any item is missing, ask for it before you pay or travel. Clear terms are not a sign of distrust. They are what lets both sides plan with confidence, and we would rather answer detailed questions now than resolve a misunderstanding later.

How to judge any training provider after this

An event like this is a useful reminder to check a few things before paying a deposit anywhere. These questions are worth asking of any school, including us.

  • Who holds my deposit, and in what kind of account?
  • What is the refund and transfer policy if the course date changes?
  • Can I see the school’s registration on a public directory?
  • Who will teach me, and what is their verifiable experience?
  • Is the offer confirmed in writing, with dates and the balance stated?

Booking directly with a school can make these answers easier to get, since there is no intermediary. It can also sometimes be cheaper, and a saving of up to approximately 20 percent is a reasonable thing to ask about. That is a question, not a guaranteed discount. If a USD 2,000 course were 20 percent lower, it would cost USD 1,600, but a written quote is the only thing that counts.

FAQ

What does the Tripaneer bankruptcy mean for deposit payers?

It means a Dutch trustee now controls the company, and deposits for bookings not yet taken may not be repaid. The outcome is uncertain. Customers should keep documents, ask their bank and insurer about options, and consider registering a claim on the ClaimsAgent route.

Why did Tripaneer hold deposits instead of the host?

According to BookRetreats’ summary of Tripaneer’s process, guests paid a deposit to Tripaneer and the balance to the host. Tripaneer released the deposit to the host, minus commission, one to two days after the guest arrived, so unarrived bookings left money with the platform.

Can YogaFX credit my Tripaneer deposit?

YogaFX may be able to give full credit for a verified deposit toward the next available eligible course in Bali. We review each request individually and confirm the credit, dates, balance and conditions in writing. It is a course credit, not a cash refund.

Does a credit apply to an online course?

That depends on your original booking and the course. The standard credit is for the next eligible YogaFX course in Bali. Tell us your situation by email, and we will confirm in writing whether an online option can be matched.

Is BookRetreats part of this bankruptcy?

BookRetreats says it is an independent company with no connection to Tripaneer or BookYogaRetreats. If your receipt names BookRetreats, speak to that platform and your host about your booking instead of assuming it belongs to the Tripaneer case.
